The Complete Air 65 LX Convertible Car Seat protects your child through two separate stages. In the rear-facing position, it fits small infants as little as 5 pounds or 19 inches, so you can seat your child comfortably and safely in your car from the earliest stages of his or her life. The Complete Air 65 LX keeps your little one comfortable in a rear-facing position all the way until he or she reaches 40 pounds or 40 inches.
At that point, the Complete Air 65 LX switches to its second stage as a front-facing car seat, where it can accommodate children from 22 to 65 pounds or 34 to 52 inches. The car seat reviews for this product looked great online but when I got it, I was a little leery because it seemed bigger and bulkier than what I was expecting. I purchased the car seat for my 13-mth old and, according to the new recommendations, planned on installing it rear-facing so she could continue riding that way until she is 2. However, when I lined up the marker on the seat to be parallel to the ground, it was way too far reclined for what I thought was correct. So I made an appointment with the local Safe Kids, which I HIGHLY recommend everyone do the first time they are getting a new car seat installed. It's an organization that will install your car seat for you and give you tips on what to look for in a proper fit (I promise I don't work for Safe Kids!!). :) Anyway, the car seat technician explained that because my daughter is a little older, she didn't have to be reclined as much as a newborn. Also, there was some space between the car seat base and the seat of my car so they provided me with a foam noodle to safely fill the space. Ever since I got the car seat installed professionally, I have loved it!! My daughter loves it -she is comfortable and doesn't fuss at all. I really like the idea of the side "air bags" because when she is sitting in the car seat, I can really see what great protection it is. I would definitely recommend this car seat for someone who has an older child who they want rear facing for as long as possible. I don't know if this would be the best car seat for a smaller infant - I have always preferred the infant carries for the first year of life or so and then transitioning to the convertible car seat (that can also serve as a booster) for the next 6-8 years.
