Recently purchased this when we adopted our son, who weighed 16.5 pounds when we brought him home. The criss-cross straps in the back relieve pressure on the lower back, so there is no back strain at all. The trade-off though is a lot of weight/pressure on the shoulders and neck muscles - makes it hard for me to wear the carrier for long periods of time.I like the fact that the baby can face either towards you or away from you, unlike some other carriers like the Ergo (our son prefers to face out so he can see everything). The carrier is easy to put on and off once you practice a few times. The minimal padding makes it cooler to wear on hot days and easy to pack in a suitcase. Our son seems comfortable and enjoys riding in it.
