This is a great product, but it is really only good once the child is old enough to wrap his legs around you and sit up on his own. The reason for this is that the fabric that goes around the back does not wrap very tightly contrary to the promotional photos. I have a large child for a four month old (starting age for this sling), and he still could flip out of this backwards if I do not hold him. If you want to wear your baby before five months, I would suggest the Balboa Baby Sling (LOVE!) or the Moby Wrap (the Moby is a lot more of a hassle than the Balboa, but the Moby gives better back support).
