I got this because I love Boppy products and quite frankly it was cute. I have six children so I have been around the block with items like this. What I like....It's cute.What I don't like, it is so slick that when I prop my baby up on the pillow for tummy time she slides off. They may have done that so it was more wipeable. Not sure but it didn't work for us, we sent it back.If you just want a blanket to lay your baby on it will work but I can do that with one of the 50 blankets we already have:)

I ordered the Boppy Play Mat thinking I would not use if for a while for our new born. After going to the pediatrician for our first appointment, we were encouraged to get the baby to work on lifting her head every day during what they recommend as "Tummy Time." Even the box that the mat comes in mentions tummy time on it, so, it is really a cool tool to use in addition to what your Doc will suggest to you at the office.The mat itself is very easy to wash, yet, I am not so impressed with the fabric as it is mostly, polyester. Maybe a more durable cotton top with poly bottom would work. There are soft top changing mats that would seem to me more comfortable than this. However, having your baby wear a nice cotton shirt solves that problem. The pillow may be a little large at first for some tummy time activities, yet, even the tummy time instructions have you using your arm as a prop as you help the baby lift her head and guide and protect him/her with your other hand.I made up a song "Tummy Time" for our little one so she knows she is going to get some work on lifting her head. Our baby lifts her head when we burp her over our shoulder so she definately gets some head lifting work through the day. Tummy Time is a great idea and the Boppy Play Mat is useful solution among others that help diversify the Tummy Time you will have for baby.

This mat takes the place of the second blanket that we used to carry for putting our daughter on. Yes you can just put a blanket on the floor so there is something between your child and where people have been walking, but then you have a 'dirty' (at least on the floor side) blanket. This is nice because it is slick and easy to clean up with a rag or a wipe. You can't really do that with a soft blanket.The mini boppie pillow is nice. It allows her to sit up a little. I also like that you can bolt the toys down to the mat - fewer get lost that way.All and all - because of the small size of the mat it fits nicely in a diaper bag and serves a nice purpose when you need someplace to put your child that you know is clean and it gives her something to play with. Once she is on the move the usefulness in this capacity will go down, but for now it is handy.
