    Product Description

The Chair Locks are the perfect choice to secure your dining/kitchen chairs so that your curious toddler cannot use them to climb and retrieve dangerous items. These straps anchor dining chairs right to the table, preventing tipping, climbing, and falls. Use them at mealtime, or keep chairs tethered full-time. Simply loop buckle strap onto chair and place lock end on table with included adhesive tape. Lock and unlock your dining chairs to table as needed. Releases with adult squeeze of latch. Works on wood or glass tables. Applies with double-sided non-marring adhesive . Length is adjustable. The Chair Locks may also be adjusted to secure toddlers in booster seats, keeping them snug to the table so they can't push out the chair or stand on the seat. Use 2 per chair. Comes with enough for 4 chairs.

I'm a mother of two, a toddler and a preschooler. We had an ER visit over my toddler climbing onto the table and then falling off while I was making dinner. My solution (since yelling into the dining room wasn't working) was to keep all of the chairs in the middle of my kitchen and in the hallway. That got really old really quick, and the chairs were not holding up well to being lugged over a baby gate at every mealtime. I very nearly resorted to giving away my table in favor of plates in laps or TV trays or *something* not involving tripping over chairs and going insane.I needed something to keep the chairs *at* the table. A DIY setup involving rope or bungee cords just didn't sound safe. But during a final desperate search of baby safety contraptions, I found these Safe to Grow chair locks. Since, at the time, there were no reviews, I asked on Facebook if anyone had used these before. I got no response. I never, ever buy things without reading reviews first. But I was desperate. I bought them anyway.Bottom line: I'm glad I bought them and I would buy them again, but I wish I could just screw them into the table instead of relying on adhesive strips. The adhesive strips are the key to this product's success or lack thereof. I will say that with these chair locks installed, an average toddler will NOT be able to pull the chairs out from under the table by him/herself. But my toddler has a determined older sibling and two forgetful parents. Even though we've had these installed for several months now, I still sometimes forget to unbuckle the chairs before trying to pull them out. This puts stress on the adhesive over time and the adhesive will eventually fail. I've replaced the adhesive strips several times already using Scotch permanent strips. Also, my toddler looks to see if the chairs are buckled to the table; if someone forgets that step, on top of the table she goes with a triumphant squeal. So, as I told a friend, these chair locks are not for leaving your kid unattended for half an hour while you take a bubble bath. (Common sense, right.) But the chair locks are effective at keeping my toddler from climbing on the table while my hands are covered in raw chicken.Tips for installation:1. DO *NOT* INSTALL UNDER THE TABLE LIP *PARALLEL* TO THE FLOOR. There's one random picture on the box showing this type of installation, and that looked more effective to my mind so that's how I installed the first set, which was the first set to fail not too long after. It's too easy to just press/pull directly downward on the strap or buckle and cause the adhesive to fail, even accidentally. Install PERPENDICULAR to the floor, as pictured in most of the other item photos you will see.2. DO *NOT* install too wide of the chairs. Installing too wide of the edge of the chair will create more tension while you're buckling the chairs in, eventually helping the adhesive to fail. In subsequent installations I have been erring on the side of slightly narrower than the chairs and that has helped reduce the frequency of the adhesive failure.3. *DO* install AFTER bedtime! The first thing any child is going to do after seeing these buckles is try to pull the chairs out. If you put the buckles on and only two minutes later a little person decides to test them, guess what? Instant adhesive failure. You want the adhesive to have plenty of time to "cure" before anyone, even a toddler, tries to put stress on it.4. *DO* follow the directions to wipe clean the spot where you're installing the buckles. Then dry it thoroughly, then apply plenty of pressure when you attach the buckle to the table. I find it easier to apply the pressure if the buckle is buckled when I do this.In the end, even with having to replace the adhesive strips occasionally (less often now that I've had them longer and know how best to install them), if I suddenly found myself without these chair locks, I would definitely buy them again. It's not much to pay for less stress during meal prep times. And these chair locks certainly cost FAR less than an ER visit!
