We needed a house-to-garage latch to keep our toddler out of the garage, but that would also let parent #2 into the house from the garage. After some searching, this seemed to be the only product that met the need. Everything else had a significant limitation, from keeping the door ajar, to breaking easily, to only be operable from one side (so toddler stays out of garage, but parent is blocked from the house).Installation did require drilling into the door jamb, and screwing two holes into the door. There was not enough room between the door and jamb otherwise. To install required a 1" drill bit, a chisel, and a screwdriver. Not complicated, but does require some care to avoid tearing up the door jamb.
