We purchased this gate to keep kids from falling down our open staircase. It's VERY strong and easy for adults to open the gate (at least once we show them how it operates:-)). Its nice to not have to remove a gate every time we want to go downstairs; we just open the gate. It's also nice that we can remove it and replace it if we need to move large items to the basement. The cost is higher than most simple gates, but one cannot put a price on safety, especially when it comes to kids falling down the stairs!
