When I was shopping on Amazon for a baby/dog gate I read lots of reviews, and I remember two things made me hesitate. One was a series of comments about inadequate shipment packaging that basically pulverized some key parts like hinges, and the other was conflicting information about whether this product would install successfully in a 29" opening; one indication held that the minimum was 29.5". I'm writing to say that the product arrived in a sturdy cardboard box, with evidently adequate internal bracing because it arrived in perfect condition. So, if you're hesitating about packaging, they've solved that problem. The other issue I can speak to is that it absolutely does install correctly in a 29.0" opening, although I think anything shy of that wouldn't work. There is just enough play in the framework of the gate that you will be able to turn the adjustment knobs and get it to fit, tension properly, and have the magnetic latch assembly work correctly. Which, by the way, it does quite nicely. And if you plan to use this to keep a dog on one side of it, as is the case at my house, I can also advise that the latch assembly is designed so you have to do two things simultaneously (lift up and pull back on a spring-lever) and while there are no doubt dogs out there who could master this they will be in the very small minority. Also, the self-closing feature works reliably and smoothly, which is nice when your hands are full, and the button that allows you to override the self-closer works smoothly too. The overall design of the product is sturdy, there are no rough edges, the plastic parts are better quality, and the look of it is nice, not cheap. One final note: the distance between the upright spindles is too narrow for the average housecat to pass through. My cats are working on figuring out the trajectory for jumping over it and they'll probably have that mastered in the next day or two. All in all: good product, happy customer.
